2024 你好,你要穿洞嗎? Hello, Would You Like a Piercing?
從小最常玩的東西,就是父母擺地攤的飾品的小零件,我們家的攤子是擺在家門口的騎樓,每次警察要來開單時,整條街的攤販們會互相呼叫提醒,在幾分鐘內我們就可以把一小車的貨搬進家裡。除了販售飾品,我們還有提供穿刺的服務,從國中時我就學會用穿耳的機械幫客人打耳洞。
家中的飾品店從開業到現在三十年間,我們家的地攤也慢慢的從一台車變成三台車,最後變成一家店面。跟以前一樣除了販售飾品,也提供各種穿刺的服務,穿刺的地方也隨著流行變得多樣化:耳垂、耳骨、耳窩、耳板、小耳朵、貫穿、rook、鼻洞、鼻中隔、眉洞、舌環、酒窩環、下巴環、微笑環、肚臍環、乳環等等,隨著各種不同身體部位的穿刺,所使用的工具也越來越多種類。
「今天打了什麼特殊洞」、「穿的多漂亮」、「哪裡的肉要怎麼抓才打得正」成為家中閒話家常的話題。我在大學畢業後,為了可以養活自己和創作,開始在家裡打工,穿刺變成是一項我要學習的新技術,當克服了將針刺入肌膚的恐懼後,穿出一個完美的洞成為每次工作時最令我興奮的事,在人體上打洞是會上癮的,不論是幫人穿還是被穿的人。穿刺的意義不僅限於最終的創作,更代表著「身體轉變的過程」。
這讓我開始研究這其中的心理動力還有穿刺的歷史,在不同文化中穿環所代表的意義不同,但還是有些相似的地方:穿環所代表的是階級與地位、美麗與勇氣。
這次展出的作品是一種我虛構的生物,它擁有許多層肌膚與肉塊,我將所有不同部位穿孔的器具放在旁邊,並用父母最早擺地攤所用的一只皮箱裝著,在展場內幫它穿上各種不同的環。它是一個集合體,象徵著家族傳授的穿孔技術的傳承和實踐,也展現了身體穿刺的歷史裡所代表的意義的極致表現。
Since I was little, I spent most of my time playing with the tiny jewelry parts from my parents’ street stall. Our stall was set up under the eaves right in front of our home. Whenever the police came by to issue fines, vendors on the street would shout out warnings to one another, and within minutes we could pack everything into a small cart and roll it back inside.
In addition to selling jewelry, we also offered body piercing services. I learned how to use an ear-piercing gun in middle school, helping customers get their ears pierced. Over the past thirty years, our family business has grown—what began as a single cart became three, and eventually evolved into a full storefront. Like before, we still sell jewelry and offer piercing services, but the body parts people choose to pierce have become more diverse with changing trends: earlobes, cartilage, conch, helix, tragus, rook, nostrils, septum, eyebrows, tongue, dimple, chin, smiley, navel, nipples, and more. With the growing variety of piercing locations, the range of tools we use has also expanded.
In our household, it’s common to chat about “what kind of unusual piercing we did today,” “how beautiful someone’s piercing looks,” or “how to hold the skin just right to get a perfect placement.” After graduating from university, I began working part-time at the shop to support both myself and my art practice. Piercing became a new skill I needed to learn. Once I overcame my fear of pushing a needle through skin, creating the perfect piercing became the most exciting part of the job. There’s something addictive about making a hole in the body—whether you’re the one doing it or the one receiving it. To me, the act of piercing isn’t just about the final result; it symbolizes a process of transformation through the body.
This realization led me to explore the psychological motivations and cultural histories behind piercing. Across different cultures, piercings have carried varied meanings, yet they often share common themes: symbols of status, beauty, and courage.
The piece I’m exhibiting this time is a fictional creature I created. Its body is layered with skin and flesh, and I place all kinds of piercing tools around it—stored inside an old suitcase once used by my parents during their early days as street vendors. In the exhibition, I pierce this creature with a variety of rings. It’s a collective form, representing both the inheritance and practice of the piercing techniques passed down through my family, as well as an extreme embodiment of the cultural and symbolic meanings embedded in body piercing.
